Submitting Samples As Bacterial Colonies

Samples sent as bacterial colonies can enter one of two pipelines.

Pipeline 1= PCR:  In this pipeline we would receive the samples, do a PCR reaction directly from the colony, purify the PCR reaction and then perform the sequencing reaction. The cost for this is:

           96-well plates:                $5/sample  (additional reads $3.50/ sample)

                                                      $480/plate (additional reads $336/plate)

Individual Samples:       $9.50/sample  (additional reads $7/sample)

Pipeline 2= Plasmid Purification: In this pipeline we would receive the samples, pick and grow the colonies, perform plasmid purification mini-prep and then perform the sequencing reaction. The cost for this is:

           96-well plates:                $4.50/sample (additional reads $3/sample)

                                                      $432/plate  (additional reads $288/plate)

Individual Samples:       $10/sample  (additional reads $7/sample)

Bacterial Colony Preparation

It is important that colonies on the agar plates are not too dense. If populations become too dense it increases the risk of contamination in the picking process.   If you have specific colonies you would like picked please indicate this by circling the bottom of the plate.

Shipment of Bacterial Colonies

Bacterial colonies grown on agar plates should be shipped overnight on wet ice. Dry ice can ruin the sample. Ship via a carrier of your choice to:
